The new edition of the Health Cup Pitch Competition was held for on May 16th at 2:30 pm, in the auditorium of the incubator UBImedical | UBIExecutive, of the University of Beira Interior. The Health Cup is a seed capital competition which aims to support teams that intend to create companies in health and life sciences and implement them in UBImedical | UBIExecutive, rewarding innovative projects in these areas.
With 6 teams competing this year, several innovative solutions were presented, with the topics being related to ophthalmological diagnostics, sexually transmitted infections, cancer, efficient reuse of waste, adverse drug reactions, or even new solutions to tackle the shortage of specialised health professionals. The selection of the winners was made by a jury composed by Professor João Lanzinha, Pro-Rector of UBI for Strategic and Institutional Project Management, Dr. António Sàágua, Executive Director of Hospital Privado das Beiras and Professor Ana Clara Cristóvão, Researcher at UBI and CSO at Neurosov.
The 2 winning teams were the following: Endo, which presented a mobile app which combines the anonymous pairing of apps between sexual partners, establishing a network that will anonymously share positive STI test results with the contacts in the network, keeping the data confidential through the use of blockchain technology; and MyMedsAI, which uses AI to help detect incompatibilities between prescriptions and to detect and document as yet unknown interactions between prescribed medicines. Both teams won a prize of 5,000 euros each and a year of pre-incubation/acceleration in the entrepreneurial ecosystem of UBImedical | UBIExecutive.
