We are delighted to announce that the EIT Higher Education Initiative has awarded #IMPACTWHEEL funding as part of their Call for Proposals 2024.
In line with the Smart Specialization Strategies and the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme, the actions of our initiative will be targeted at developing competencies and delivering impactful solutions to answer global and societal challenges. IMPACTWHEEL HEIs will make use of the pioneer partners’ expertise and past experiences in HEI initiatives, to spur the translation of academic knowledge into the market, not only by boosting existent businesses with disruptive and impactful innovations, but also by creating high tech companies with solutions to disrupt market challenges. #Deeptech will be reinforced through our actions.
The consortium of IMPACTWHEEL was strategically designed to ensure the most qualified and experienced entities could provide the necessary expertise to achieve the project’s ambitious objectives. The consortium integrates entities from education/academia, research, business and innovation areas, including 6 universities (Universidade da Beira Interior with UBImedical Incubator, Universidad Pública de Navarra, University of St. Andrews American Foundation, Inc., Rīgas Ekonomikas augstskola – Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, University “Goce Delcev” at Stip, Unimercatorum), two intermediary organisations that represent HEIs (NOVA FORUM – Instituto de Formação de Executivos da UNL, CEIPIEMONTE s.c.p.a.), and two companies with expertise in innovation and entrepreneurship (ambiom, INOVA+). To ensure maximum impact, the consortium is also designed with geographical diversity in mind, with partners from different EU regions bringing local knowledge and context-specific insights, namely Italy, Latvia, North Macedonia, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom (Scotland). The project coordinated by the University of Beira Interior (UBI) through UBImedical Incubator recognized for the quality of its performance in teaching, research and knowledge transfer, and with a strong commitment to the region where it is located.
By joining the Higher Education Initiative community, we truly believe that we will improve and shape our universities’ capacity to innovate and to transfer impactful knowledge into society, through increasing academic commercialization and enhancing the integration of higher education in the innovation ecosystem, by providing HEIs actors (academics, students, staff, entrepreneurs) with the necessary tools, networks and capacities.
