Two more Startups awarded!
On October 1st, a new edition of Health Cup – UBImedical’s Seed Capital, took place online. There were 6 teams in the run, of which 5 presented their pitch to the jury, composed by Manuel Lemos, Miguel Castelo-Branco, Ana Paula Duarte and Dina Pereira.
Despite the strong quality and maturity of the projects, the jury awarded two teams, as per the contest’s regulation – CovidSight and Tox et al.
CovidSight presents a technological tool that utilizes computational vision algorithms to automatically verify the fulfillment of the safety regulations enforced by the government entities regarding COVID-19. Moreover, this tool uses artificial intelligence to detect temperature, distance between people and use of mask. This team is already doing a pilot test with great results in Lisbon. The team is composed of 4 students from the University of Beira Interior: Vasco Ferrinho Lopes, Bruno Manuel Degardin, João Gaspar Ramôa Gomes e Nuno José Matos Pereira.
The Tox et al team, composed by 2 professors and 3 students, Dr. Ana Sousa, Dr. Ramiro Pastorinho, Susana Coelho, Rafael Barros, Celso Ferraz. This project has as its focus the use of tests and toxicity models for the analysis and evaluation of the environment risk of raw materials and products of the industry.
These two teams will each be awarded €5.000 and 1 year of free incubation at UBImedical. This year of incubation includes mentoring, coaching, counseling, support in fundraising, connections with investors, intellectual property consultancy and support in the drafting of the business plan. This year, with the European project coordinated by UBImedical – BIO-ALL – the two teams will have the opportunity to take part in the Bio-All Joint International Acceleration Program, an Accelerator Program to support the scale-up and growth of early stage startups of the BIOHEALTH sector.
